Exposure is a blog dedicated to music and the culture it creates. For most of my life, I have been involved with music. From watching my dad sing in his cover band to playing instruments of my own; music has been part of my daily life. I made this blog to explore how music has impacted myself and the world around me. I am not a professional, and I wouldn’t say that I have the greatest amount of insight on the industry. But that only means exploring the daily changes in music will be that more interesting.
To me, music is a key indicator of trends and society’s opinions. With the 24/7 news cycle, a lot can change in a very short time period. Music, and news about music has adapted to this quick cycle. In order to know what’s going on; the public needs to be consistently informed. This is where my blog comes in. Being just myself, I can’t comment on every little change in the music industry. I want to comment on the big stories and follow where the trends are going.
While I use this platform, I want to improve my writing abilities and my capacity for journalism. My degrees will ensure that I will be writing every day for the rest of my life. But right now my writing could use some improvement. This blog will be a place for me to practice my skills, and work on improving my voice in my writing. For Exposure to work as a music blog; I have to keep track of what’s going on every day. My capacity for journalism must increase in order to accurately report on the industry. To improve my credibility and ensure the success of my blog, I have to improve my writing and reporting.
I want my opinions to have credibility and reach those who read my blog. Anyone who reads my articles on this site should feel informed and enthusiastic for the next post. My writing won’t reach everyone, but I hope it makes an impact on those who do read it. If nothing else, I hope readers of this blog feel obligated do more research about this music industry. There are enough buried stories to entertain people for multiple lifetimes.
This blog was created to fulfill my need for doing extra research. This industry has fascinated me for almost my entire life, and I wanted to spread what I was interested into others. Everyone enjoys music, but I wanted to see how deep its influences go. Music reflects the time that it was made in. A music blog is not a new idea, but I want to explore why the music being made right now sounds like it does. I might fail horribly, but its worth a shot. Thankfully, I have plenty of other creators to guide and inspire me.

While I don’t agree with all of his opinions; Anthony Fantano has made a name for himself in the music industry. His YouTube channel has over two million subscribers, and he has a vocal fanbase. In regard to my blog, I hope to copy his clear delivery and eloquence. Even if someone disagrees with my opinion, I want them to acknowledge that my point was made well.
KEXP is an independent radio station running out of Seattle. I’ve always respected their live performances of smaller artists. Their website has a sense of consistency and style that I want in my blog. The people who run the station and write for the website are industry professionals. I hope to emulate their skill and passion for the music industry.
I don’t know who will read this blog. My family and friends will most likely read it the most consistently. But I don’t know if I’m making it for them. I have a lot of passion for music, and considering I don’t sing anymore, I need an outlet for that passion. Whoever reads this, just know that we’re in the same boat. We will be exploring this massive industry together, hopefully learning something new every day.
